Privacy Policy

Your subscription, your data

Plain-language summary of what we collect for the newsletter, how consent works, and how to leave. Last substantive update: October 2026.

What we collect when you subscribe

When you subscribe to The Morning Briefing newsletter we store your email address (kept in normalized form to prevent duplicates), the exact consent wording you agreed to and its version, the date and time you consented, and where the signup happened (for example, the homepage or newsletter page).

We do not store your name, browsing history, or advertising identifiers for newsletter purposes, and we do not sell or rent email addresses.

Double opt-in and consent records

Subscribing does not start any email until you confirm. We send a one-time confirmation link valid for 48 hours; your subscription begins only when you click it. These express-consent records — what you agreed to, when, from where, and when you confirmed — are retained as proof of consent under Canadian anti-spam law (CASL).

Unsubscribing

Every email we send includes a working unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing takes effect immediately and we keep a record of the unsubscribe request. Once unsubscribed, the address is suppressed from all future marketing broadcasts. Resubscribing is always possible and requires new, explicit consent.

Retention and deletion

Subscriber records are retained while the subscription is active. Unsubscribed and never-confirmed records are retained only as consent proof for a bounded period, after which they are deleted through our retention workflow. You may request deletion of your subscription data at any time using the contact address published on this page when launch setup completes.

Note: our retention schedule is configured at launch. This section will be updated with the concrete retention period before the first newsletter send.

Operational data

To prevent abuse of public forms we keep short-lived, salted (hashed) counters — never raw IP addresses. AI briefing interactions are recorded only as anonymized references with no conversation transcripts.

Satire disclosure

The Fifth Podium is a satire publication. Our press secretary is an original fictional character — not a government employee, official, or real person. We cover real events and clearly separate verified summaries from parody. Nothing from our fictional Secretary should be read as an authentic statement.

Launch note. Sender identification and a contact mailing address, as required for commercial email under Canadian anti-spam rules, will be published here before the first send. This summary is provided for transparency and is not legal advice or an independent compliance certification.
